Merzbacher’s French Toast
When I’m thinking of breakfast or brunch foods to prepare on the weekends when I want something that’s warm cozy and comforting, you know the feeling when you eat something, it feels so good like you’re receiving a hug. Browsing around Riverward Produce Market in the Old City section of Philadelphia, I found myself in the bread section, there were a selection of locally sourced fresh baked bread from several local bakeries. In front of me sat this french toast loaf from Merzbacher’s, a bakery in the Germantown section of Philadelphia. I knew this bread would make for a good Saturday brunch on a cold gloomy morning and it didn’t disappoint.
Ingredients:
6 slices of bread
2 eggs
1 1/2 cup milk
2 tsp vanilla extract
2 tsp cinnamon
1 tbsp raw can sugar or honey
1 tbsp butter
Maple syrup and powdered sugar (optional)
Instructions:
Beat eggs, milk, vanilla extract, sugar or honey and cinnamon in a shallow dish.
Dip bread slices in egg mixture, coating both sides.
Heat butter in a large non-stick pan over medium heat.
Cook bread slices until golden brown, about 2-3 minutes per side.
Serve hot with maple syrup and powdered sugar, if desired. Enjoy!
